External Services & Data Transmission

The app communicates with the following third-party services. We list exactly what data is sent to each:

1. ummahapi.com

  • Purpose: Fetch Quran surah listings, surah details with translations, Hijri calendar dates, and Quran text search.
  • Data Sent:
    • Language preference (English or Indonesian translation selection).
    • Your search query text when using the Quran search feature.
    • Optional date parameter for Hijri date conversion.
  • Auth: Uses an API key for rate-limiting purposes only.
  • Base URL: https://ummahapi.com

2. everyayah.com

  • Purpose: Download Quran recitation audio files for playback.
  • Data Sent: Standard HTTP requests for MP3 files identified by surah and verse number (e.g., 001001.mp3). No personal data is transmitted.
  • Base URL: https://everyayah.com/data/Ghamadi_40kbps/

3. Firebase Crashlytics (Google)

  • Purpose: Collect crash reports to help us identify and fix bugs.
  • Opt-in only: Crash reporting is enabled by default on first launch with a consent dialog asking for your permission. You can disable it at any time from the About screen. If you opt out, no crash data is sent. If you have not made a choice yet, the app assumes consent and a post-crash snackbar will prompt you to decide.
  • Data Collected (when opted in): Exception class name, error message, and stack trace from app crashes. We do NOT attach custom user identifiers or log custom keys to crash reports.
  • When reports are sent: When a network API call fails or when an unhandled error occurs in the app's internal processing.

4. Google AdMob

  • Purpose: Display native advertisements to support the app's development and operational costs.
  • Data Collected: Google AdMob may collect standard advertising data including your device's Advertising ID, IP address, approximate location, and app interaction data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Consent: A Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent dialog is shown on first launch for users in applicable regions. You may also disable ads entirely from the Settings screen.

5. saweria.co (Donation)

  • Purpose: A link to our donation page, opened in your external browser.
  • Data Collected: None by the app itself. Any data collected is governed by saweria.co's own privacy policy.
  • Base URL: https://saweria.co/muslimpath

Location Data

How We Use Location

Use Case How It Works
Prayer Time Calculation Prayer times are computed locally on your device using the adhan2 library with your GPS coordinates and your chosen calculation method and madhab settings. No data is sent to any external server for prayer time calculation. Only the Hijri date is fetched from ummahapi.com.
Qibla Direction Calculated locally using your GPS position and device compass/magnetometer sensor.
Location Polling While the app is in the foreground with the Home or Prayer screen active, GPS is refreshed every 15 minutes to keep prayer times accurate. This stops when you leave those screens or close the app.
Storage Coordinates are cached locally on your device and overwritten on each refresh.

Explanation of Permissions Requested

The following permissions are requested by the app. Each is explained below:

Permission Why It Is Required
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION Optional. Required to get your precise GPS coordinates for accurate prayer time calculation and Qibla direction. Without this permission, prayer times and Qibla direction cannot be calculated - you will see an error prompting you to grant location access in your device settings.
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION Optional. Approximate location alternative - requested alongside fine location to provide flexibility.
android.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM Required to schedule prayer-time alarms at exact times (e.g., Fajr at 4:52 AM). Without it, alarms could be delayed significantly by Android's battery optimization.
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS Optional. Required to show prayer-time notifications and alarm dismissal screens. We recommend granting this so you don't miss prayer reminders.
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Required to reschedule all your prayer alarms after your device restarts (since Android clears all alarms on reboot).
android.permission.VIBRATE Used for haptic feedback in the Qibla compass and prayer notifications. Automatically granted by the system.
android.permission.REMOTE_NOTIFICATION Optional. Requested at runtime for push notification capability.
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID Required by Google AdMob to serve advertisements. Automatically granted by Google Play Services.

No Analytics or Tracking

  • The app does not include any analytics, tracking, or user profiling SDKs (no Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, Mixpanel, or similar).
  • Debug logging via the Napier library is disabled in release builds and only active during development.

Android Backup

The app allows Android's auto-backup feature (allowBackup="true"). This means your local preferences (location cache, reading progress, bookmarks, settings) may be included in your device backups (e.g., Google Drive backup). To prevent this, you can disable backup for this app in your device settings.

Children's Privacy

This app does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. All data is stored locally on device, and no user accounts exist.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the app's repository and updated documentation. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
